Serbian paratriathlete Lazar Filipović, together with his guide Strahinja Trakić, delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 World Triathlon Para Championships in Pontevedra, Spain, winning the silver medal in the men’s PTVI category and becoming World Vice-Champions.
The Serbian tandem completed the sprint-distance race — 750 metres of swimming, 20 kilometres of cycling and a 5-kilometre run — in 1:00:56, finishing just 19 seconds behind Great Britain’s reigning world champion Dave Ellis and his guide Luke Pollard, who won gold in 1:00:37. France’s Antoine Perel finished third in 1:01:13.
Filipović and Trakić were in contention for the world title throughout the race. Filipović produced the fastest swim of the field, completing the 750 metres in 11:10 and taking the early lead. The British tandem managed to reduce the gap during the cycling stage, setting up a dramatic battle for gold over the final five-kilometre run. Filipović fought for the victory until the closing stages, with Ellis ultimately prevailing by the narrow margin of 19 seconds.
The silver medal is another major achievement for Serbian parasport and confirms Filipović’s place among the world’s leading paratriathletes. His performance in Pontevedra follows an exceptional 2026 season, which has already included victories at major international competitions.
